Have you heard of "industrial mezzanine"? It seems to be a complicated phrase but it is not that complicated! Very narrow aisle pallet racking is a highly specialized storage system that maximizes the available space in warehouses. That allows them to have more products without having to build a larger building.
Let’s imagine for a moment a typical warehouse. You know those shelves that are high up and hold all kinds of boxes of products? They are great for storing things, but those shelves can really take up a lot of space! Very narrow aisle pallet racking is an approach to solve this. By significantly shrinking the aisles, or pathways between shelves, warehouses can fit more shelves into the same amount of space. This provides more storage space for boxes and products. It’s like a game of trying to fit as many toys as possible in a toy box!
The reality is that many of the benefits of mezzanine platform go well beyond simply making the most of your available space — though we’ll get to that a little later. It also facilitates workers to do their jobs faster and efficiently! Where the aisles between the shelves are narrower, workers can use specialized trucks known as “reach trucks” to push around boxes. These reach trucks are specialized to fit into those tighter aisles making it very easy to access product on the shelf.
Think of how much easier it becomes for workers to handle products when they are given the tools they need! Reach trucks help workers to quickly grab boxes and take them wherever they need to go. That means they can get their jobs done quicker and with less effort, which is always a positive thing. This saves the warehouse time and money, allowing products to reach the customers who need them quickly.
Let’s get started on the number one benefit of very narrow aisle pallet racking: More product in the same amount of space for your warehouse. In a typical pallet racking system, you may only be able to fit four or five shelves in one place. But guess what? With very narrow aisle racking, warehouses may actually accommodate upwards of ten, even twelve shelves in that same area!
This is crucial for warehouses. It means they can restock more goods without needing to move into a bigger building or pay for additional storage.” By arranging additional shelves within the same square foot, warehouses store additional items and earn more income. And instead of needing two or three boxes, it’s like fitting your favorite toys in one box!
With narrower aisles, there’s less space for workers to bump into one another. This means that there is less of a chance of accidents occurring and that people can get on with performing their jobs without getting in each other’s way. Also, reach trucks that are specialized to access the shelves make it easier for our workers to do their work as it is much harder to access a shelf in a normal storage system than in a system with narrow aisles. So, less space actually means a safer working environment!
